New Generation Of Office Tenants Prefers A Flexible Office Space Environment

Gone are the days of sitting for hours behind a line of desks and in compartmentalized cubicles in front of bulky computers.

Workers want more natural light, interaction and collaboration with colleagues, to have the ability to work outside and have access to other amenities in or around the office building, panelists said at Bisnow's Los Angeles Office: Workplace of the Future event Wednesday at the Convene coworking space at the Wells Fargo Center in downtown Los Angeles.

Children’s Place turnaround continues with highest comp gain ever

A slimmed down The Children’s Place blew past analysts’ estimates in its second quarter amid increased traffic at its mall stores.

The Children’s Place has shrunk its portfolio in recent years. In 2013, it announced a “fleet optimization” initiative to shutter 300 stores by 2020. Since then, the retailer has closed 191 stores.

Net income totaled $7.5 million, or 45 cents a share, in the quarter ended Aug. 4, down from $14.3 million, or 79 cents a share, in the year-end period. Higher interest payments and a much higher provision for taxes affected earnings. Adjusted per-share earnings came to 70 cents, ahead of analysts’ estimates of 59 cents.

Micro-Amusement Park To Open In LA Arts District

“It’s like a small Disneyland for a retail complex.”

It is not quite Disneyland. There are no rides. But the place is all fun and games and highlights the evolution of family entertainment centers.

Nearly 283,000 visitors a year visit family entertainment centers, according to the International Association of Amusement Parks and Attractions, an organization that represents more than 5,300 members worldwide.

Visitors on average stay two-and-a-half hours, spend $24 a visit and visit the venue up to three times a year, the IAAPA reported.

Strong Job Growth in U.S. Driving Up Office Asking Rents

According to Transwestern's second-quarter 2018 national office market report, continued improvement in the U.S. office sector was due in large part to a strong jobs market with remarkably low overall unemployment of 3.9 percent, and a 1.6 percent annual growth rate in office-using employment.

For the second quarter, office absorption totaled 18.8 million square feet, vacancy remained stable at 9.6 percent, and average asking rents increased by 3.4 percent annually to $25.71 per square foot.
